About us
James Fisher Fendercare is a world-leading provider in ship-to-ship (STS) transfers and a major global supplier of premium quality marine equipment. Our vision is to protect people and our oceans, providing pioneering marine solutions that drive safety and service excellence and deliver value to our customers and stakeholders.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Product Manager to lead growth initiatives within the Fendercare product portfolio, with focus on the maritime industry operations. A key responsibility will be the development and oversight of our fixed fendering solutions, managing the full lifecycle from concept through to installation, and ensuring each project aligns with strategic goals and delivers operational excellence.
In addition to fixed fendering, the role involves identifying and evaluating new products and services that support profitable growth across the Fendercare range. The successful candidate will conduct thorough market analysis, develop robust business cases, and collaborate cross-functionally to meet financial and compliance requirements. This is a strategic role that combines industry insight with innovation to meet evolving customer needs in a dynamic maritime environment.
Role Accountabilities
- Define market opportunities for fixed fendering solutions, including ports, harbours, offshore platforms, and marine infrastructure.
- Conduct extensive market and customer research to understand regional needs and challenges in fixed fendering installations.
- Develop and refine product positioning, value propositions, and technical messaging tailored to industry decision-makers, including civil engineers and port authorities.
- Identify gaps in existing fixed fendering offerings and generate ideas to enhance Fendercare's competitive advantage in bespoke fendering solutions.
- Establish strategic partnerships with marine construction firms, civil consultants, and port authorities to drive business growth.
Project Execution & Team Leadership
- Create and lead a dedicated Fixed Fendering Team, ensuring coordination across design, engineering, procurement, and installation teams.
- Identify quality partners to contract with for design/manufacture/installation project elements as necessary and according to budget.
- Oversee product development, from initial technical feasibility assessments to full-scale project deployment.
- Collaborate with engineering to ensure that Fendercare's fixed fendering systems meet safety, environmental, and performance standards.
- Develop standardized installation procedures for fixed fendering systems, ensuring efficiency and compliance with maritime regulations.
- Support on-site installation projects, providing expertise in product application and troubleshooting.
Sales & Customer Engagement
- Act as or identify a subject matter expert within the team or on a contracted basis for fixed fendering solutions, supporting sales teams with technical insights and customer consultations.
- Represent Fendercare by visiting clients, conducting site assessments, and providing recommendations for fixed fendering applications.
- Work closely with the marketing team to develop promotional materials and training resources for the sales force.
- Evaluate pricing strategies, ensuring a balance between profitability and competitive positioning in the market.
Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in product management or maritime infrastructure project management, preferably in fixed fendering solutions, marine construction, or port installations
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in designing, developing, and implementing fixed fendering systems.
- Technical understanding of fendering materials, mooring forces, tidal variations, and marine environmental impacts.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex technical projects.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to engineers, port authorities, and business stakeholders.
- Experience in working with civil consultants and contractors for large-scale fixed fendering projects.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Maritime Studies, or related disciplines is preferred.
