The Role:
We are seeking an Engineer to deliver effective design solutions and provide ongoing engineering support across the JFD product range. The role includes developing new products to meet client or internal specifications, as well as supporting customer requests to upgrade or modify existing equipment.
The ideal candidate will communicate clearly, work well both independently and as part of a team, and maintain strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail. They will approach documentation and design work methodically, adapt quickly to changing client needs, and take full ownership of tasks through to completion. A commitment to producing high‑quality, cost‑efficient solutions within tight deadlines is essential.
What you’ll be doing:
- Provide engineering design input to new products and provide engineering support to the existing product range by assessing technical queries and providing engineering solutions.
- Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
- Creation of part numbers and bill of materials as well as s
- Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and creation of part numbers and bill of materials.
- Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports.
- Checking detailed electrical drawings and documentation, adherence to engineering and company standards and processes and Compliance to internal and external standards & regulations.
- Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget.
- Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as and when required.
- Accountability and responsibility as technical checker of drawings and documentation generated in support of the electrical engineer role.
What we’re looking for:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar engineering role, supported by a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong electronics and embedded systems design capability, including circuit design and embedded software development (e.g., STM32/STM IDE).
- Knowledge of EMC‑compliant electronic and electrical system design.
- Proficient in PCB schematic capture and layout using tools such as Altium Designer, including working with external design bureaus.
- Familiarity with relevant design standards (IPC, marine/defence standards, class rules such as LR and DNV).
- Skilled in generating engineering design calculations and using CAD/design software tools.
- Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for creating and managing engineering documentation.
- Competence in selecting cables, connectors, penetrators, and designing HV/LV electrical systems with associated calculations.
- Experience in designing power distribution systems and specifying, selecting, and managing traction battery systems up to 150 kWh.
