The Role:
Join us as an Operations and Maintenance Specialist - Fire Systems and play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of our OFTO fire systems.
In this pivotal position, you will act as the subject matter expert for asset management of fire systems across the James Fisher/EDS OFTO portfolio and will lead safe, high quality inspection, maintenance, and first line response activities across our OFTO assets
Working collaboratively across the business, you’ll partner with Operations Teams, Project Managers, Engineering, and Operations Planning teams to deliver O&M and asset management activities safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Beyond day-to-day O&M activities you will take ownership of routine fire systems maintenance and rapid response, ensuring compliant operation, diagnosing complex faults, and coordinating third-party specialist support when needed.
This role will be home based with travel to our sites.
What you'll be doing:
- Act as the fire systems subject matter expert across the James Fisher/EDS OFTO portfolio.
- Proactively manage fire system health, integrity, and defect resolution.
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with fire system regulations.
- Follow permit-to-work and RAMS procedures; report hazards and near misses.
- Maintain site readiness, including inductions, authorisations, toolbox talks and equipment checks.
- Carry out inspection, testing, routine maintenance and fault finding on fire systems.
- Complete defined mechanical tasks within competence.
- Document all work to a high standard with full evidence.
- Perform PPMs and compliance testing on detection and alarm systems.
- Conduct basic diagnostics and safe resets for panel faults; escalate non‑routine issues to specialists.
- Maintain accurate service records, defect logs and certificates in the CMMS.
- Serve as the primary site focal point, maintaining short-term site plans and readiness checks.
- Prepare RAMS, permits and ensure tools, materials and spares are in place.
- Coordinate contractors on site, ensuring briefings and compliance (without taking SAP duties).
- Liaise with Marine Coordinators/Vessel Operators for safe access and transfers.
- Raise and close work orders; update asset histories and log defects in the CMMS.
- Provide daily and weekly updates to the Site Ops team and O&M Lead.
- Complete maintenance reports and support asset management documentation.
- Participate in the standby rota, providing first line response and stabilising conditions before handover.
- Develop and improve processes for compliance, testing and system handover.
- Capture lessons learned and propose enhancements to maintenance methods.
What we're looking for:
- Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent in electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical discipline.
- Prior experience in a transmission, renewables, industrial, marine, or similar hazardous operational environment.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to work offshore/onshore, on rotation, and in confined spaces as required.
- Working knowledge of fire protection systems and relevant standards.
- Familiarity with fire panels and connected devices for non-invasive fault finding and routine maintenance.
- FIA type certification/competency in fire detection and alarms (plus awareness of suppression systems), or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Understanding of fire system performance, risk and criticality, with the ability to assess condition and recommend remedial actions.
