The Role
As the HV Technical Authority, you will act as a Technical Lead and will be responsible for ensuring the technical integrity, operational and safety excellence of HV systems across all operational JFR sites. You act as the primary authority on HV technical and safety standards, providing expert advice, operational support, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices.
You will have a background in site safety operations, authorised under UK standard safety rules and demonstrated track record on leading and training others to these standards.
The role will also involve supporting operational activities as a Control Person and Senior Authorised Person as and when required.
Role Accountabilities
- Serve as the primary technical expert on HV operations with specialised knowledge of systems up to and including 400kV.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight on system operations and maintenance activities, particularly for transmission-level voltage systems.
- Support and advice on design, implementation, and management of HV infrastructure with respect to operational impact in renewable energy projects, especially offshore wind farms.
- Provide technical assistance & guidance on EMSRs to operational staff and clients.
- Support authorisation panels as the authorising engineer. Review and highlight required changes within the safety rules.
- Act as the ‘authorisation officer’ under the safety rules, managing the Safety Rules Database and acting as a Chair of Safety Rules Committee.
- Conduct Safety Rules audits and incident investigations. Design and run Safety Rules internal audit programme.
- Lead and mentor operational staff on advanced technical aspects of high voltage systems. Coach and mentor less experienced team members in HV safety practices.
- Assess and provide advice on third-party consultancies and supply chain companies for HV services.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices in HV safety. Actively participate in industry forums and technical committees to influence and shape best practices in HV operations within the renewables market.
- Act as a technical authority in supporting strategic opportunities, contributing to new business opportunities and helping to secure new projects.
- Report to Head of Engineering, HSEQ Manager and other key stakeholders risks on opportunities for improvement regarding HV operations and Safety Management.
Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive experience in HV engineering with significant exposure to operational roles.
- Evidence of HV authorisation.
- Experience in HV safety management within the offshore wind industry.
- Familiarity with UK safe systems of work or equivalent HV safety standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to guide.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring junior members of staff.
- Ability to cooperate in a team and manage multiple projects.
