The Role
We are hiring for two key roles in our Company Secretariat team at James Fisher and Sons plc, a fast-paced and agile FTSE 350 organisation, one of which is Assistant Company Secretary. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a small, high-impact team where you will gain broad exposure, take on real responsibility, and work closely with senior stakeholders, including Board members.
In this role, you will support the Company Secretary in delivering a high-quality company secretarial and governance service, ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Your work will span board and committee support, share schemes, global subsidiary governance, and engagement with external advisors. You’ll also play a key role in supporting the Disclosure and Audit & Risk Committees.

This role is a perfect next step for an ambitious assistant who is looking for a role that will equip them with the skills to be a Deputy Co Sec.
Based in the City of London with flexible working, these newly created roles offer a unique chance to grow quickly in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Principle Accountabilities
- Act as Secretary to the Disclosure Committee and manage the Executive Committee with agendas and papers.
- Assist the Company Secretary in providing pro-active support to the Board and Board Committees.
- Co-ordinate and manage the third party legal providers for the global companies.
- Contribute to the subsidiary governance project and manage the Co Sec in put into the rationalisation of the Group structure.
- Manage the group’s corporate structure and ensure efficient and cost effective delivery of corporate actions.
- Responsible for drafting the governance sections of the Annual Report & Accounts (ARA).
- Manage the Annual General Meeting (AGM) logistics and documentation.
- Mentor and manage the Co Sec Assistant.
Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified CGI professional or equivalent professional body.
- Degree-level education preferred, ideally in Law, Business, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a company secretarial or governance support role, ideally within a listed company or professional services company.
- Familiarity with legal entity management systems and corporate filings.
- Experience using Diligent or similar board portal software.
- Strong communicator with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a trusted approach to handling sensitive information.
- Highly organised with proven project management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
