With the rapid growth of James Fisher Offshore in the APAC region, our goal is to localise the role that is currently based in the UK. We believe localising the role is pivotal in supporting the ever-growing accounting and financial operations in Malaysia. This is to ensure our business not only stays compliant, but also thrives amidst its growth trajectory.
As Assistant Accountant, you will be assisting the Finance Manager in ensuring smooth daily accounting and financial operations in Malaysia. You will also actively contribute to process and internal control improvements. Primarily, you will be responsible for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions and assisting the Finance Manager with the financial reporting to the head office in the UK.
Principle Accountabilities:
Accounts Payable:
Manage account payable (AP) by ensuring reviewing and processing vendor invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payments to vendors, and reconciling discrepancies.
Improve account payable process and strengthen internal control.
Accounts Receivable and Credit Control:
Manage account receivable (AR) by preparing and issuing invoices to customers, monitoring payments and following up on outstanding invoices.
Supporting Head Office in ad-hoc AR and Credit Control responsibilities.
Improve account receivable process and strengthen internal control.
Financial Reporting:
Record journal entries and update the General Ledger to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, petty cash, and other financial records.
Assist in monthly stock count and stock analysis.
Assist in month-end closing and balance sheet reconciliation.
Perform PL analysis for tax reporting purpose.
Compliance and Support:
Assist in the coordination with external auditors, tax agents.
Assist in the issuance of e-invoice to customers and suppliers in the portal.
In addition, support Malaysia office with ad-hoc tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Possession of a Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Finance or other related fields. Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), with professional qualification from ACCA, CPA, ICAEW, or equivalent.
- Alternatively, we encourage candidates who are aspiring Accountants who are looking to complete their professional studies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential.
- Ideally, experience with SAGE or IFS system as this would be an added advantage.
- Conversant with accounting standards, Companies Act 2016 and other regulatory compliance requirements.
Who are we looking for?
- Experience of practical accounting and finance.
- Prior experience in the audit field with “Big 4” or mid-tier audit firms is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- You will need to be proficient in English.
- You will have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in financial record-keeping and reporting and be self-motivated, reliable and mature.
- You will possess integrity and be comfortable with accountability.
